Long Beach Man Arraigned For RVC Drunken Driving Death: Prosecutors

MINEOLA, NY — A Long Beach man was arraigned on Tuesday on manslaughter and other charges stemming from a motorcycle crash last year that killed a man, prosecutors said.

Christopher Flores, 27, faces second-degree manslaughter, first- and second-degree vehicular manslaughter and second-degree assault. Flores also is charged with driving while impaired by the combined influence of alcohol and drugs as a felony and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol as a felony. He also faces a count of reckless endangerment and reckless driving.

Flores pleaded not guilty and is due back in court on May 30.

"Scott Brower was walking home after meeting a friend for drinks in celebration of Rockville Centre’s Irish Day when he was struck by the defendant who was allegedly driving his motorcycle while under the influence of drugs and alcohol," Nassau County DA Anne Donnelly said. "Despite making the responsible choice, Scott never made it home that night and later died."

According to the charges, on March 19, 2022, just before midnight, the victim was crossing Merrick Road at South Forest Avenue when he was allegedly struck by Flores driving a 2020 BMW motorcycle eastbound on Merrick Road at a high rate of speed while allegedly intoxicated and high.

Flores was thrown from the motorcycle, which crashed into another vehicle before finally coming to rest.

If convicted, Flores faces up to five to 15 years in prison, Donnelly said.
