Skip the hours of traffic for the overcrowded and overpriced East End and plan a trip to these eight Long Island towns instead.

Here are some fun activities you can do in Long Beach, according to Thrillist:
- Stretch out on the sand or walk the boardwalk to soak up the seaside vibe.
- Eat at Swingbellys on Beech Street for real-deal slow-smoked barbecue, including the best ribs this side of St. Louis.
- For dessert (or breakfast), grab some handmade donuts in flavors in maple bacon and s'mores at the Dough Hut.
- Visit the Diner by the Sea for crazy, multicolored milkshake concoctions you don't have to wait hours in line for.
