Long Beach Police Charge Man For 2016 Attempted Murder

Police say the man waited for a woman to get home, then attacked her from behind and beat her in the back of the head, nearly killing her.

Long Beach police arrested a Lynbrook man on Thursday and charged him with trying to beat a Long Beach woman to death in 2016.

According to police, Ralph Keppler, 27, waited near the home of the Long Beach woman on the night of Dec. 4, 2016. When she came home, police say he attacked her from behind, repeatedly striking her in the back of the ehad with a blunt object, causing "catastrophic" head and brain injuries. Police said Keppler specifically targeted the woman.

Long Beach detectives, working with the Nassau County District Attorney's Major Offense Bureau, conducted an extensive investigation, which led to Keppler's arrest.

Keppler is charged with second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault. He was arraigned in Long Beach City Court on Thursday and was remanded into the custody of the Nassau County Sheriff's Department.
