OCEANSIDE, NY — A 78-year-old woman is in critical condition Friday after being struck by a drunk driver while she was crossing the street, police said.

Nassau County police said the woman was walking on Long Beach Road and crossing at a Weidner Avenue crosswalk Thursday at 4:41 p.m. when she was struck by a 2004 Chevy Express van.

The woman was taken to the hospital after the crash, and is listed in critical condition, while police began an investigation, police said. That investigation would reveal that 24-year-old Niall Duignan had been driving the van while intoxicated, police said.
