Long Beach Teacher Denies Abusing Students

Lawsuits allege the teacher bound students with zip-ties and physically abused them.

A Long Beach teacher accused of abusing special education students in her care has denied the allegations against her.

In statements made during hearings on Wednesday, Lisa Weitzman, who was a special education teacher in the district, denied the allegations that she threatened to restrain students with zip-ties, used the bathroom as a time out space, dug her heel into a child's foot and cursed at another child, Newsday reported.

The Long Beach School District is seeking to fire Weitzman, who has tenure. She was suspeneded into 2014 after parents made allegations that she was abusing children, but she is still collecting her $96,000-a-year salary.
