Long Island Brewery Named Best In New York

Barrier Brewing Company, based out of Oceanside, won the title of Best Brewery at the "Best Brews in New York" this week.

Barrier won the preliminary round, beating out many other Long Island breweries, to represent the area in the state-wide competition, which was held at Brookfield Place in Manhattan on March 14.

To win the title, Barrier beat out four other New York breweries: Harlem Brewing Company, from Harlem; The Bronx Brewery, from the Bronx; Empire Brewing Company, from Syracuse; and the Captain Lawrence Brewing Company, from Elmsford.

Voting was done by the attendees at the event, guided by beer connoisseur Anne Becerra. In addition to being a fun night, the event was also for a good cause: all of the beer sales (which topped $60,000) will be donated to Habitat for Humanity.
