Long Island Is One Of The Most Irish Places In America
We even beat out New York City. And one of the most Irish communities is located here, too.

Plenty of people on Long Island are getting ready to celebrate their Irish heritage and paint the town green for St. Patrick's Day. But did you know that Long Island is one of the most Irish places in the country?
Irish Central combed through census data to find the areas with the most Irish-American citizens. And it turns out that New York is near the top of the list, and Long Island, too.
Long Island is listed as the ninth-most Irish city area in the country, with 13.1 percent of Long Islanders claiming Irish heritage. Boston was the most Irish city in the country, which probably isn't a surprise. A bit more than 20 percent of residents there have Irish blood.

But while Boston may top the list of cities, Irish Central also looked at smaller communities where Irish people live, and all of the top ones are in New York. Breezy Point/Rockaway Point was the highest in the country, with 54.3 percent of citizens there claiming Irish heritage.
But right here on Long Island, Point Lookout came in at No. 2, with 45.6 percent of its residents having Irish ancestors.
