Madison, CT, 10/6/2015 –The Connecticut Association for the Gifted announced today that its popular Minds In Motion TM workshop series will be held at The Country School in Madison on October 17. Among the 30 children’s workshop offerings is a songwriting workshop by PBS Kids’ own Steve Songs, a.k.a. Steve Roslonek.
Jennifer Elles-Jones is serving as chair of the event which is co-sponsored by CAG, The Country School administration and parents, and GoQuest.
Minds In Motion™ Madison different workshops for children include ‘Hidden Life and Cells’, given by Tom Noonan, an educator at Talcott Mountain Science Center, ‘Roller Coaster Physics’, given by Charly Weiss, elementary educator, and ‘Intro to Improvisation’, given by Vicki Wepler, Music and Choral Director, The Country School, and ‘Blended Lights’ given by the Eli Whitney Museum staff. Workshops for adults include ‘New Family Habits, by Gena Rotas, LCSW, and ‘Powerful Strategies to Enhance the Learning of Gifted Students’, by Nathan Levy, President, Nathan Levy Books.
This year’s parent keynote address will be given by Kerry Shay, psychologist, and Victoria Wepler, teacher at The Country School. Their topic ‘Teaching the Whole Child: The Importance of Character Education’ will include a discussion of the pillars of character education and how parents can reinforce the core values of character education at home.
Each Minds in Motion™ offers exciting, fast-paced workshops for every child, Kindergarten – 8th grade. The event is designed to enrich and encourage curious (not necessarily gifted) students. In addition, the adult keynote and workshops provide parents with thought-provoking, special-interest workshops, free of charge. Minds in Motion™ also affords the opportunity to network with fellow parents and learn about resources, after-school programs, camps, books, and other educational tools beneficial for every child. Over 1600 children plus their parents and teachers benefitted from the unique programming of Minds In Motion™ events during the 2014-2015 school year.
The brochure with all the workshop choices and online registration can be found on the CAG website at www.ctgifted.org. The cost for CAG members is $25 per child, and for non-members $35 per child for the whole afternoon. Financial aid is available upon request. Space is limited, classes are assigned on a first-come, first served basis and they fill up fast. Parents may register their children online at www.ctgifted.org through October 14.
