Missy Miller Sworn in as Assemblywoman for 20th District

She officially replaces Todd Kaminsky representing Long Beach and the Five Towns.

Joined by her family, friends, elected officials and other supporters, Republican Assemblywoman Melissa “Missy” Miller was sworn into office on Monday at Lawrence Middle School at Broadway Campus, officially becoming the Assembly representative for the 20th District.

“I’m looking forward to getting to work in Albany and representing all of the hardworking families of the 20th District,” Miller said. “We’re going to fight to make our communities stronger and more affordable and we’re going to ensure that state government is responsive and effective.”

Miller defeated her challenger, Democrat Anthony Eramo, a Long Beach City Councilman, in the race for the open seat. The seat was vacated by Todd Kaminsky when he won his bid for the state Senate. The 20th AD has not been held by a Republican in more than 50 years.

Miller has a background rooted in advocacy. She fought for passage of the Compassionate Care Act, legislation authorizing physicians to prescribe medical marijuana to treat serious illnesses like the epilepsy her son battles every day. Miller understands the problems families face because her family has dealt with tremendous adversity. Her daughter Melanie passed away due to complications stemming from a neurodegenerative disease when she was only seven years old.

She has been volunteering in a pediatric-residency training program through Northwell Health for more than 20 years. She has also been instrumental in enhancing Lawrence High School’s Life Skills program.
