MINEOLA, NY — A Long Beach woman pleaded guilty today to manslaughter for the murder of her lover in 2018.
Jennifer Gross, 54, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter. She is due back in court on May 8, and is expected to be sentenced to 22 years in prison.
“In a fit of uncontrollable rage, this defendant violently beat her partner to death before setting his house on fire to cover up the crime,” said Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas. “Our condolences remain with the Coppola family and friends.”

According to Singas, between 4:30 and 6 p.m. on Nov. 20, 2018, Gross went to the home of 75-year-old James Coppola in Centre Island to ask him for money. When Coppola refused, Gross attacked him and beat him to death. She then set the house on fire to try to cover up the murder.
Before setting the fire, Gross stole jewelry from the home. The two had been in a romantic relationship that lasted about 20 years.
