Why she rocks: Over the years, she has imparted so much wisdom:
1. You can never wear too much mascara. Never.
2. If you’re going to eat anything with fiber, drink a lot of water or “you’ll be in a world of hurt.”
3. Consider the source.
4. This too shall pass
5. When you get out in the world, always remember whose kid you are.

But I think the best advice she ever gave me was observed, not spoken.
Like so many in our area, in 2012 my Mom lost her house and all of her belongings to Hurricane Sandy. Overnight, she was homeless with only the clothes she had come to my house with. She came to stay with me while her house (and her life) was rebuilt. The day we were dragging all of her waterlogged and ruined things out on to her lawn, she turned to my sister and I and said, “New beginnings!”
From her example, I’ve learned that no matter how hard and dark life seems, when you are standing on your front lawn surrounded by all of your furniture, dressed in clothes that don’t belong to you, put a smile on your face and speak of new beginnings. Over the years, I’ve seen that no matter what life has thrown at her, she has caught it instead of being bowled over. She has always done it with grace (accompanied by a salty remark). She is scrappy and beautiful and I am always so proud to be her daughter.
