Officer Helps Furry Residents Beat The Dog Days Of Summer

The two dogs, and their owner, were waiting in the heat for car help. So he helped them cool off, then helped them get going.

A Nassau County police officer is gaining some social media recognition for taking the time to help two small, furry and overheated residents.

According to police, Officer Accardi was helping a woman whose car had died on the Atlantic Beach Bridge Sunday afternoon. Joan Silke, 50, of Bayside, ran out of gas, and she was waiting for assistance to get it started.

While she was waiting, Accardi took the woman's two elderly dogs, Molly and Maggie, who were 12 and 13 years old, and let them wait in the air-conditioned comfort of his police cruiser. He also offered the same courtesy to the dogs' owner, but she preferred to wait outside.
