Republican Takes Special Assembly Election With 'Overwhelming' Win

"Humbled" Ari Brown defeated Democrat David Lobl for the 20th Assembly District seat.

CEDARHURST, NY — In the special election to succeed Melissa Miller in the Assembly, Republican Ari Brown declared victory against David Lobl in the 20th District.

Brown posted to his campaign Facebook page Thursday night that he was "truly humbled by our overwhelming victory."

Brown defeated Lobl, 4,667 to 2,413 votes, the LI Herald reported. Both men are from Cedarhurst.

Brown is expected to run again in the November general election.

"Tonight’s election results are truly a sign that November’s red wave is shaping up to be a massive one," Brown wrote.

Brown, 54, has been a Cedarhurst village official for two decades.

Miller is now a Town of Hempstead Councilmember.
