Shark Sighting Sends Swimmers Briefly Out Of Water At Nickerson Beach
The shark's fin was spotted at around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Town of Hempstead Supervisor Don Clavin announced.
LIDO BEACH, NY — A shark was spotted at Nickerson Beach on Thursday, Town of Hempstead Supervisor Don Clavin confirmed.
Once the dorsal fin of the shark was spotted at approximately 3:30 p.m., town lifeguards alerted everyone to get out of the water.
Hempstead Town Shark Patrol was deployed before confirming the shark's disappearance and allowing swimming to return a short time later, Clavin's office said.

Earlier this month, there were five shark attacks in a two-day span across parts of Suffolk County.
