Swimming Resumes After Shark Spotted At Nickerson Beach: Officials
Hempstead officials prohibited swimming at several locations Saturday after a shark was spotted about 75 feet from shore.
HEMPSTEAD, NY — Swimming has resumed at several locations Saturday after a shark was spotted offshore near Nickerson Beach.
According to a spokesperson for the Town of Hempstead, swimmers were evacuated from Nickerson Beach after lifeguards saw the shark about 75 feet from the shore.
Following the sighting, Lido Beach and Malibu Shore Club were placed under a red flag, which means swimming was prohibited until further notice.

Swimming has since resumed, officials told News 12 Long Island.
Officials said the Town of Hempstead Shark Patrol is currently tracking the shark’s location and monitoring the situation.
