South Nassau Hospital Holding Annual 5K and Health Fair
Everyone is invited to participate in the activities, which will raise funds for the hospital's cancer center.

South Nassau Communities Hospital will be holding its annual 5K and Health Fair on Sunday, Sept. 25 at the hospital's Oceanside campus.
The 5K Walk for Cancer Care will be held in the neighborhood surrounding South Nassau, located at 1 Healthy Way in Oceanside, from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by the free Health Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the hospital’s parking lot (rain date is Oct. 2).
Supported by Hewlett House and the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce, all funds raised through the walk and the health fair will support South Nassau’s Gertrude & Louis Feil Cancer Center. Each walker has been asked to raise at least $100. The Health Fair after the walk will feature health and wellness displays as well as free health screenings for prostate cancer and cardiac risk factors including cholesterol, Body Mass Index (BMI) and blood pressure. From start to finish, the hospital's main parking lot will be host live entertainment featuring local talent, sponsored by the School of Rock in Rockville Centre, marital arts demonstrations by Shaolin Self-Defense Centre in Oceanside, an array of fun and challenging carnival games and food vendors.

All funds raised will go directly toward assisting Gertrude & Louis Feil Cancer Center patients and families impacted by the disease. The proceeds from the 5K will be used to support patient care programs and needs, including:

- Transportation support between treatment and services
- Housecleaning, child care, elder care to support compliance with patient’s treatment plans
- Other expenses related to a patient’s cancer diagnosis (support with medication, insurance, physical therapy, etc.)
- Support patient’s to receive wigs/bras, etc.
- Development and expansion of patient support groups
- Development and distribution of patient education materials
- Delopment and support for cancer awareness and prevention programs for the community
- Development of programs to reduce barriers to cancer screening and cancer care.
