LONG BEACH, NY — As Long Beach gets the celebration going for its 100th birthday, a time capsule will be part of the festivities.

Residents can participate in two ways for the milestone event.

The public is invited to submit an artifact or item that best represents the city of Long Beach. Students from the barrier island, in grades K-12, can take part in an essay and art contest.

All entries must be received by May 16.

For the items left for generations to uncover, the city does not want hair, rubber, wool, food, plants or other living things. All items should be no wider than 12 inches.

  • What does Long Beach mean to you?
  • What do you think Long Beach will look like 50 years from now?
