Veteran LB Fire Chief Joins New County Executive's Team

Richard Corbett was appointed deputy commissioner of the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management.

LONG BEACH, NY — A longtime member of the Long Beach Fire Department has been appointed to the new county executive's team.

Richard Corbett, who spent 32 years in the department, was picked by Bruce Blakeman as deputy commissioner of the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management.

The new position takes effect when Blakeman becomes county executive on Jan. 1.

"I would be remiss if I didn’t thank every administration in the City of Long Beach who allowed me to work, grow and bring new ideas to make it a better place," Corbett said on Facebook.

His last day working for the Long Beach Fire Department is scheduled for Dec. 15.

"I will never forget where I came from and will always have Long Beach sand in my shoes," he said.

Corbett, a former fire chief, led the barrier island's rescue and recovery during Superstorm Sandy in 2012.
