NEW YORK, NY — Voters have spoken in the Republican primary race for the 3rd Congressional District. Michael LiPetri Jr. has won by a large margin after votes were tallied on Tuesday.
Long Island residents hit the polls on June 23 and voted on the outcome of the 3rd Congressional District Democratic race, with the district spanning northeastern Queens, across the North Shore of Long Island in Nassau County, and including parts of northwestern Suffolk County.
LiPetri, backed by the Nassau County GOP, defeated challenger Greg Hach with 10,898 votes compared to Welch's 2,294 votes.
LiPetri will be up against Democratic candidate Tom Suozzi for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. The general election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3.
