Spice Recall: Lidl Issues Recall For Spice Mix Sold In NY, NJ

LONG ISLAND, NY — Lidl has issued a recall for the Vitasia Asian Style Wok Spice Mix after samples tested positive for salmonella, according to the FDA.

The recalled spice mix was distributed between July 24 and August 10 to all Lidl retail store locations in Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia, the FDA states.

According to the recall notice, this was a voluntary recall by Lidl for 2,040 containers of product with a best-by date of June 2028. The lot number of the recalled products is 155846.

The recall notice states it was assigned a Class I recall by the FDA, meaning the products could cause serious health consequences or death.

No illnesses have been reported as of last week.

There are 24 Lidl store locations on Long Island, spanning from Nassau to Suffolk County, according to the company's website.

Customers should discard or return the recalled product to a Lidl store for a full refund — the receipt is not required for return, according to the FDA. Questions can be directed to Lidl customer care at 844-747-5435.

According to the FDA, Salmonella "can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people," as well as others with weakened immune systems. For others, Salmonella "can cause fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain."
