NASSAU COUNTY, NY — Incumbent Tom Suozzi is poised to win reelection in the 3rd Congressional District race against challenger Mike LiPetri, according to unofficial results.
Suozzi, running on the Democratic line, held a lead over challenger LiPetri, running on the Republican line, in the race for New York's 3rd Congressional District.
As of Wednesday morning, Suozzi garnered 141,870 votes, or 53.86 percent, while LiPetri had 106,411 votes, or 43.78 percent, according to the New York State Board of Elections.
Suozzi took to Instagram, sharing a light-hearted video from his watch party with his followers:
"I have some bad news, and I have some good news," Suozzi began. "The bad news is that it looks like nobody is going to get their $5,000 check. The good news is that democracy works. We did it."
The results have not been officially called yet, and there are still 41 districts left to report.
