MTA Completes Upgrades at 3 Lower Manhattan Subway Stations

NEW YORK CITY — The MTA has completed extensive upgrades at three Lower Manhattan subway stations following summer service outages for track work.

The Christopher St–Stonewall and Houston St stations on the 1 line and Park Place on the 2/3 lines received functional and cosmetic improvements while crews replaced 30-year-old switches near Chambers Street. The work required four weekend service suspensions in July and August.

At Christopher St, crews repainted about 40,000 square feet of surfaces, while Houston St received approximately 45,000 square feet of repainting and Park Place received 38,000 square feet. The work included painting entrances, booths, doors, ceilings and track areas, along with more than 12,500 square feet of masonry repairs at Christopher St and Houston St.

Crews also repaired 3,000 feet of platform edges across the three stations, refinished benches, cleaned drains and serviced HVAC systems. At Christopher St–Stonewall, 20 LED fixtures were installed in previously dim areas.

The MTA said its Station Revive program has now completed projects at more than 180 stations across New York City, including more than 6.3 million square feet of repainted surfaces and over 900 refinished benches.
