Bonfire Burns On Subway Seat, Video Shows

The unidentifiable burning object was seen inside an F train at the Second Avenue station on the Lower East Side.

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY — The unwritten rules of subway etiquette are tough to master, but one New Yorker definitely screwed up last weekend when they took up an entire subway seat with an unidentifiable flaming heap.

Somebody else could have used that seat. And it was a corner spot.

The fire broke out early Sunday morning inside an F train at the 2nd Avenue station in the Lower East Side, an MTA spokesman said. A conductor noticed the flaming object and called both the police and fire department, the spokesman said.

The FDNY responded to the station and put out the fire, an MTA spokesman said. The train was taken out of circulation, the spokesman said. While firefighters were tending to the situation, the MTA rerouted F trains onto the A line.

Nobody was injured by the fire.
