🌱 Mayor Adams' COVID Recovery Roundtable + 232 E. Broadway Work

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Lower East Side-Chinatown.

Happy Friday, Lower East Side-Chinatown! I'm Sean Peek, filling in for your usual curator for the next couple of days. Here's everything happening in your neighborhood today.

First, today's weather:

Clearing, windy and cooler. High: 58 Low: 27.

Here are the top three stories in Lower East Side-Chinatown today:

  1. On Thursday, Feb. 17, New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced his administration's COVID-19 Recovery Roundtable and Health Equity Task Force, a commission to advise the administration on long-term, comprehensive policies around health equity and health access. The task force, unprecedented in its diversity, is made up of approximately 40 leaders from a wide variety of sectors and will meet monthly over the next year. (Press Release Desk)
  2. The Façade work taking place on 222 E. Broadway, a 28-story residential tower on Manhattan's Lower East Side, is progressing and is expected to be completed by November this year. The 84,271-square-foot structure will yield 51 units with an average scope of 1,397 square feet and was designed by S4Architecture for Optimum. Round Square Development is the general contractor for the property. (New York YIMBY)
  3. The pandemic has been difficult for Chinatowns across America. Tourism has slowed across the country, forcing new and multi-generational shops and restaurants to close. On top of that, there have been crimes against Asian Americans since the onset of the pandemic. For these reasons, many religious centers, including the Mahayana Buddhist temple in New York City, have been busy during the pandemic as some leaders look for alternative uses for houses of worship.
