Updated, 2:45 p.m. — Milo Yiannopoulos has resigned from his position as senior editor at Breitbart News, according to a statement released on Tuesday afternoon.

"I would be wrong to allow my poor choice of words to detract from my colleagues' important reporting, so today I am resigning from Breitbart, effective immediately," he wrote in the statement. "This decision is mine alone."

Yiannopoulos' resignation from Breitbart comes after comments in which he appears to condone sex with boys as young as 13 resurfaced this weekend. The conservative media personality was disinvited from speaking at this week's Conservative Political Action Conference after the comments were re-publicized. Simon & Schuster also canceled its planned publication of his book, which was originally scheduled to be released in June.

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY — Milo Yiannopoulos is hosting a press conference Tuesday in New York City after a tumultuous weekend during which his resurfaced comments condoning sex with boys as young as 13 lost him a book deal and an invitation to speak at a conservative conference this week.

The controversial media personality, who has long been widely-reviled among the left, faced a maelstrom of criticism this weekend after a comments from 2016 of him condoning sex with 13-year-olds resurfaced. Yiannopoulos was disinvited from the Conservative Political Action Conference, where he was scheduled to speak later this week. Simon & Schuster canceled its planned publication of his book "Dangerous."

Yiannopoulos condemned pedophilia in a Facebook post on Monday.

"I am a gay man, and a child abuse victim," he wrote. "I would like to restate my utter disgust at adults who sexually abuse minors. I am horrified by pedophilia and I have devoted large portions of my career as a journalist to exposing child abusers."

Yiannopoulos is infamous for espousing sexist and transphobic views. He was permanently suspended from Twitter after encouraging his followers to send abusive, racist and sexist tweets to "Ghostbusters" star Leslie Jones.
