Popular Clinton Street Tapas Joint Closes After 12 Years on Lower East Side

The owner of Tapeo29 said he closed the restaurant for personal reasons.

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY — The beloved Clinton Street tapas joint Tapeo29 closed it's doors last week after 12 years on the Lower East Side. The restaurant, on the northwest corner of Clinton and Stanton streets, was completely empty by the evening of Nov. 29, the Lo-Down reports.

Tapeo29 was an intimate Spanish tapas and wine bar known for friendly staff, great drinks and authentic tapas. The restaurant was a great place for a date night, with it's low-lit atmosphere with dark wood and exposed brick. Tapeo29 often held holiday parties and viewing parties for big sports events.

The Lo-Down spoke with Tapeo29's owner Ofir Yaloz, who said the decision to close was personal. Yaloz plans to open a different restaurant in the city, but hasn't announced any details beyond that.

Tapeo29 was located at 29 Clinton St. The 750 square foot restaurant is available for $7,850 a month, according to Loopnet.
