• West Hempstead house fire displaces residents, claims 2 dogs, fire marshal's office says (newsday.com) — Firefighters from Malverne joined several neighboring departments Tuesday to battle a fast-moving house fire on Nassau Boulevard in nearby West Hempstead that displaced two residents and killed two dogs. Officials say smoke alarms were working and the blaze was brought under control in about 30 minutes, while county fire marshals and police arson investigators continue to probe the cause.
