Meet StinkyKids!
Have you and your child read StinkyKids Yet? Well here is why you should!
If you haven't heard of StinkyKids, you will soon be happy to have read this article. StinkyKids isn't really about kids that stink. It is a term of endearment from their creator and mom Britt Menzies, that came from the phrase little stinker which she used to describe those mischievous but innocent two little ones of hers at home. Britt Menzies, who was actually an accountant by trade, drew a picture of her little girl as a ballerina and hasn't looked back since. Now with three published LittleStinkers books and a line of dolls, her creation: StinkyKids are slowly but surely taking over the children's world of entertainment, and I couldn't be more excited. I have for you today a review of one of the StinkyKids books and an interview with the master of all Stinkykids herself Britt Menzies.

I honestly love my kindle and all the amazing books that you can get on it, and Stinkykids is now one of them! Although there is something about reading a childrens book in all its hardcover glory, either way you experience the StinkyKids world will be a great one. The pictures are colorful and immediately grab the attention of your child, and yourself. The wording is simple enough for the child to understand what is going on, and instantly puts you and the child in the world of these characters. It is not written as if a grown up is writing about children; you and your child feel as if you are experiencing the book through the Stinkykids' eyes which is something I appreciate.
In this particular title, Stinky Kid Britt, who is an expert gum chewer, hides the fact that there is gum in her hair from her parents so that she can go to a play date she has been looking forward to. The kids, who happen to be playing "Haircuts in a Hurry", do their best to get the gum out of Britt's Hair using such methods as ice and of course peanut butter. When all that fails Britt takes a pair of safety scissors to her hair and cuts it off, making a total MESS out of her beautiful red hair. Of course she has to tell her mommy who did not freak out, but made sure that they all cleaned up the mess they made trying to "fix Britt's hair" which wasn't as fun as making the mess. It ends very happily with explanations of telling your parents when you are in trouble, never using scissors, and a brand new haircut. All in all a really cute book.
Some of you may see the words gum and scissors and may think whaaa... To this mommy however this is one of the reasons why StinkyKids is so special. In this world where we are forever covering up all of our kids bad behavior with excuses and reasoning, we seem to forget, kids do silly things! We forget that through mistakes is the way children learn. Through the eyes of the StinkyKids your child sees how these kids face a challenge, help one another out, and then reap the consequences of their actions. StinkyKids lets you experience how kids make mistakes, and how they learn from them.
My son is no way allowed to chew gum (he is only 2) but his cousins are. So guess what he wants. Gum. Well now my son does not want gum because I say to him: Do you remember what happened to Stinky Kid Britt when she chewed gum? The answer is always OH NO! Now gum is getting to be less and less of an issue and it is all because my son experienced StinkyKid Britt's mistake with her. I feel as if we can safely check "gum in the hair" off the list of dumb things my kid will do (although he is his father's child so maybe not :)
