Stolen Car Driven Into Hempstead Lake On Long Island
Divers scoured the water but found no sign of the driver or any passengers. Police are still investigating.

UPDATE, 12:15 P.M.: New York State Parks Police released more information about the car that drove into Hempstead Lake Tuesday morning.
According to police, the car drove into the lake around 5:40 a.m. An investigation of the car, which was a 2019 Chevrolet Suburban, revealed that it was stolen from a home in Rosedale. Police went to the owner's home to check on them, and everyone there was fine.
Police say that no suspects have yet been identified. The State Park Police are still investigating.

ORIGINAL STORY: A car was seemingly abandoned in Hempstead Lake Tuesday morning, and police are investigating.
Numerous emergency responders descended on Hempstead Lake State Park Tuesday morning after a call came in for a car in the water. The Lakeview Fire Department was the first on the scene, and requested dive teams from the East Rockaway and Freeport fire departments for assitance.

According to the East Rockaway Fire Department, the dive teams searched the car and the surrounding water, but found no one. The car, which was a large SUV, had made it about 100 yards from shore.
The car had gone into the lake near exit 19S of the Southern State Parkway in Lakeview.
The New York State Parks Police is handling the investigation, and is expected to give out more information this afternoon.
