Police ID Woman Killed In Southern State Parkway Crash

MALVERNE, NY — Police have identified the woman killed in a crash on the Southern State Parkway early Sunday as Gresmor J. Blackman-Douglas, 58, of Amityville.
On Sunday at 6:57 a.m., New York State Police said they received a call regarding a crash in the westbound lane of the Southern State Parkway, west of exit 15S in Hempstead.
Blackman-Douglas was driving a 2013 Nissan Rogue when she lost control of her vehicle and left the roadway; she struck a tree and her vehicle caught fire, police said. Blackman-Douglas was pronounced dead at the scene by a Nassau County Police Department paramedic, police said.

Blackman-Douglas was on her way to work as a critical care nurse at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn at the time of the crash, according to the Town of Babylon officials who said Blackman-Douglas would receive a posthumous Heroism Award, the Town's highest honor, for her commitment to helping others.
