Cops: Man and Passenger Attack Father and Son After Hempstead Turnpike Crash

Defendant's six-year-old daughter was in the car during the crash and subsequent attack, police said.

Two Uniondale men assaulted a man and his father after their cars collided in East Meadow, according to Nassau County Police.

Police said Wardell Lyles, 26, of Uniondale, was at the wheel when his car collided with another on Hempstead Turnpike at 3:30 p.m. Monday.

Lyles and his passenger, Stephan Boucarut, 26, got out of the car and began to punch the other car’s 36-year-old driver before knocking him down, cops said. The victim’s 68-year-old father got out of the car and tried to help his son but was also beaten by Lyles and Boucarut, police said.

Lyles’ six-year-old daughter was in the back seat of the car at the time of the accident and was present for the assault, police said.

Responding officers arrested Lyles and Boucarut, both of whom resisted arrest at first, and found that Lyles was drunk, cops said.

The 36-year-old victim suffered a severe eye injury and his father sustained contusions and swelling to his face, police said. Both were brought to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Lyles was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree assault, resisting arrest, Leandra’s Law violations for aggravated DWI, driving while ability impaired by drugs, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Boucarut was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree assault, and resisting arrest.
