The Malverne 2015 Flag Day Contest winners and honorable mentions at Greis Park with Assemblyman Brian Curran and Island Park fire Dept. Chief Anthony D’Esposito.
Assemblyman Brian Curran (Lynbrook-21st AD) recently honored the winners of his annual Flag Day Art and Essay contest held at Greis Park in Lynbrook.
“It is great to see so many children wanting to participate in this year’s contest. They showed the community what the American Flag means to them,” said Curran. “We had roughly 400 students participate in this year’s contest! I want to especially thank our veterans who willingly gave up their morning to judge this year’s contest. The patriotism and care these students exhibit are a testament to the dedication and involvement their parents, this community and our educators have in raising civically-engaged children. We all should be very proud of them.”
Schools entered in the contest included: Robert W. Carbornaro School, Brooklyn Avenue School, and William L. Buck School in Valley Stream; St. Christopher’s School in Baldwin; Centre Avenue Elementary School and St. Raymond’s School in East Rockaway; Waverly Park Elementary School, the Kindergarten Center, Marion Street Elementary School, Our Lady of Peace School, and West End Elementary School in Lynbrook; Davison Avenue Intermediate School and Our Lady of Lourdes School in Malverne; St. Thomas the Apostle School in West Hempstead; and William S. Covert Elementary School in Rockville Centre.
