Assemblyman Brian Curran presents a New York State Assembly Citation to Future Leader of New York State recipient Lindsey Gelbert from George W. Hewlett High School.
Assemblyman Brian Curran (Lynbrook-21st AD) recently presented his “Future Leader of New York State,” recognition to Lindsey Gelbert from George W. Hewlett High School in Hewlett. Lindsey was selected for demonstrating her commitment to community as well as her leadership abilities, with plans to attend the University of Hartford in the fall.
“The leadership qualities that young people like Lindsey display are what our state needs,” said Curran. “This recognition encourages a level of thinking that sparks the imagination in our young adults. It is my hope that, when our young leaders continue their education and eventually get out into the world, they will have a special regard for public service, hard work, and consider how they can contribute their own unique talents and energies toward making the world a better place.”
Curran is continuing the Future Leader of New York State Award tradition that was initiated by his predecessor, Assemblyman Bob Barra. A graduating senior from each high school and a graduating 8th grader from the private and parochial schools in the assembly district are honored during this graduation season.
