Educators Honored As Part Of MLK Day Celebration

The Malverne Union Free School District named the staffers Humanitarian Award winners.

MALVERNE, NY — A pair of educators have been recognized as part of the Martin Luther King Jr. celebration.

The Malverne Union Free School District named Martine Laventure, a Davison Avenue Intermediate School Social Worker, and District Director of Special Education Meredyth Martini, as recipients of this year's Humanitarian Award.

They will be officially honored by the district on Jan. 27.

Laventure, a 2002 Malverne graduate, has been a social worker for the past 13 years holding various positions in mental health and community agencies.

Martini started her career as a school psychologist at Malverne Senior High School in 1998 before being promoted to director nine years later. As the director, she oversees the special education department K-12.
