Elderly Woman Killed While Crossing Hempstead Turnpike In Nassau

Police say the woman was rushed to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead by doctors. The investigation is ongoing.

An elderly woman was killed Tuesday evening after she was hit by a car while crossing a road in Franklin Square Tuesday.

According to police, an 86-year-old woman was trying to cross Hempstead Turnpike at 6:19 p.m. when she was struck by a 1997 Jeep Wrangler. The woman suffered multiple injuries and was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later by doctors.

The driver stayed at the scene, and police performed a brake and safety check on his car. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
