John Thorpe, 71, was charged with attempted murder after police said he stabbed a man in the neck inside an Elmont store.

ELMONT, NY — A Queens man was arrested and charged with attempted murder after police say he stabbed a man in the neck inside of an Elmont card store on Christmas. According to police, John Thorpe, 71, of 116th Avenue, St. Albans, entered Ebony Cards and Gifts, at 2107 Dutch Broadway, at 3:55 p.m. Inside, police say Thorpe got into an argument with a 66-year-old man.
Thorpe then exited the store and went back to his car, where he got a knife, police said. Thorpe reentered the store and stabbed the man in the neck, police said.
When officers arrived at the scene, police said that Thrope began to struggle with them, flailing his arms in an attempt to stop them from placing him under arrest. He eventually complied with the officers commands, police said, and was placed under arrest.
