Frozen's Queen Elsa Visits Local Summer Camp

Rolling River Day Camp in East Rockaway, New York celebrated the start of the summer 2014 camp season with Spirit Week from Monday, July 7 to Friday, July 11. Each day, campers and staff wore special clothes and accessories for a different theme, such as Masquerade Monday, when campers showed off their favorite masks, and Tie-Dye Tuesday, which brought out campers’ brightest colors and artistic designs.

The highlight of Spirit Week was Disney Thursday, when Queen Elsa from Disney’s hit movie Frozen made a special guest appearance, greeting campers as they arrived in the morning, and posing with them for photographs. Campers were then treated to an exclusive concert, where Elsa performed the hit movie songs “Let It Go” and “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” while many campers sang along.

Spirit Week culminated with Friday’s Song and Plaque Day, a popular annual tradition where campers perform a song about their group, and present a beautifully painted plaque highlighting both their group name and each camper’s name. Older campers were excited to compete for awards like Best Choreographed Song, while Rolling River’s youngest campers enjoyed singing for each other on stage. Campers’ pride in their group, and the fun they have working together, is evident in each group’s terrific performance.

According to Alison Goodman, Special Events Supervisor, “Spirit Week is a time for everyone at Rolling River to come together, show off their camp spirit, and make new friends.” Spirit Week 2014 was a success, and campers can’t wait for the fun to continue throughout the rest of the summer season.
