Hit-And-Run Driver Arrested: Nassau Police
Police say the driver seriously injured a woman he hit with his car, and then fled the scene.
ELMONT, NY — Nassau County Police arrested an Elmont man whom they say seriously injured a woman in a hit-and-run last month.
According to police, a 41-year-old woman was crossing Hempstead Turnpike, near Evans Avenue, in Elmont at 2:25 p.m. on Feb. 22 when she was hit by a gray 2012 Honda Civic. The driver fled the scene. The woman suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital.
During the investigation, police say they identified the driver as Daniel Gianotti, 22, of Burton Avenue, Elmont. He was arrested Tuesday morning without incident.

Gianotti is charged with leaving the scene of an auto accident with serious physical injury and tampering with physical evidence. He is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on March 23.
