Home Health Aide Stole Checks From Employer: Nassau Police

Police say the woman wrote more than $30,000 in checks to herself from the account of the person she was supposed to be helping.

Nassau County police arrested an East Rockaway woman whom they say was writing checks out to herself from the account of the person she was working as a home health aide for.

According to police, Nancy Cook, 45, of Atlantic Avenue, worked as a home health aide to an East Rockaway person. While working for them, police say she wrote out checks from her employer's account made out to herself. Police say that, between September 2018 and January 2019, she forged the signatures on 110 checks, totaling about $31,000.

Police arrested Cook on Wednesday morning without incident. She is charged with third-degree grand larceny and second-degree possession of a forged instrument. She was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Wednesday.
