Hundreds of people from Malverne and beyond came to the village Monday night to pray for Det. Steven McDonald, who suffered a heart attack last week.

McDonald was shot in the spine while chasing a bicycle thief in Central Park in 1986. Even though that act left him paralyzed, McDonald forgave the teen that shot him. Since then, he has spoken all over the country about the power of forgiveness. He has been an inspiration to many.
