Lakewood Stables Voted Best Staycation Spot

West Hempstead equestrian center provides family fun without going far.

When you and your family are off from work and school, but can't afford to getaway, there are plenty of great local attractions to enjoy on your "staycation."

But there was one spot in Malverne-West Hempstead that stood out from the rest. The New York Equestrian Center, formerly known as is the best place to spend a staycation in the neighborhood and the winner a Patch Readers' Choice Award. It garnered the most votes in this week's contest.

The stables offers residents of all ages horseback riding lessons and trail rides through the scenic . It also runs summer camps and hosts kids parties.

Although the stables is currently closed as it's being transformed into a state-of-the-art equestion center complete with an indoor riding area, owner Alex Jacbobson expects it to be open soon. Once the construction is complete, residents will be also be able to attend horse shows in the new arena.
