LI Students Organize Fundraiser For Ukraine

The students at the Downing Primary School in Malverne sent donations to a nearby Ukrainian church.

MALVERNE, NY — Ukraine is on the minds of students at the Downing Primary School in Malverne.

The school's Student Council organized a fundraiser to help families in Ukraine.

Run by Jenn Eisenberg and Katie Smyth, altruism shined with numerous donations from the community.

The school collected three large boxes of medical supplies and more than 20 bags of clothes, the Malverne Union Free School District said in a news release.

The drive also pulled in 10 bags of coats, three bags of boots and shoes, and much more.

"We teach the students that helping our community is very important," Smyth said in a statement. "We emphasize that it’s important not only to help our school community, but it’s very important to help our world community as well."

Donations were sent to The Supply Drive for the People of Ukraine at St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Church in Uniondale.
