Loaded Gun Recovered After Traffic Stop In Franklin Square: Police

The 18-year-old is charged with criminal possession of a weapon and resisting arrest, police said.

FRANKLIN SQUARE, NY — A teenager, who was stopped by police, took off and collided with several parked cars on Hempstead Turnpike in Franklin Square.

The 18-year-old also attempted to flee on foot, authorities said.

After a brief struggle, he was taken into custody just after 5 p.m. on Thursday. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

An investigation revealed a loaded Ruger 57 semi-automatic handgun in the vehicle.

He faces counts of criminal possession of a weapon and resisting assist, and will be arraigned when medically practical, police said.
