Lynbrook Community Comes Out to Celebrate Homecoming
Green and gold spirit was on grand display for the annual football tradition.
Nothing says fall like football, and nothing says community spirit like the Lynbrook High School Homecoming game. This year’s annual PTA Scholarship football game on Sept. 24 was a perfect example of that old green and gold spirit that has brought generations of fans of all ages out to cheer for the Owls.
The event kicked off with the homecoming parade, which made its way from the high school to the Santo J. Barbarino Athletic Complex at the Marion Street School. Band members carrying the Lynbrook High School banner led the parade, joined by board members, administrators, cheerleaders and the kickline team. Homecoming queen Deanna DiCosimo and her court waved to the crowd in royal style, while her king, Owls running back Nick Paris, was in the locker room preparing for the game. Representatives of the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior classes carried homecoming banners created especially for the occasion.
During the pregame festivities, senior cheerleaders, kickline members, football players and their parents were invited one by one onto the field for recognition.

Facing off this year against longtime rival Floral Park in a tight game, the Owls kept the play exciting right until the final moments. But a homecoming victory was not in the cards this year, as the undefeated Knights pulled off a 10-7 victory.
At halftime, the varsity cheerleaders, varsity kickline and marching band put on a dazzling show, complete with precision footwork and high-flying acrobatics. The theme of this year’s marching band performance, which featured electric guitar accompaniment, was “The Lynbrook Wild.”

Throughout the afternoon, parent volunteers were busy selling burgers, hot dogs, baked goods, drinks and Lynbrook Owls apparel. All proceeds from their efforts will go toward scholarships for graduating seniors.
