Lynbrook Mayor Dies Of Heart Attack

Mayor William Hendrick died at South Nassau Communities Hospital Wednesday night.

Lynbrook Mayor William Hendrick died from complications caused by a heart attack Wednesday night at South Nassau Communities Hospital. He was 64.

According to the Lynbrook-East Rockaway Herald, Hendrick was at a Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce Meeting at the Atria Tanglewood Tuesday morning when he collapsed in the lobby. He was rushed to South Nassau, and later died on Wednesday.

Hendrick spent decades in public service. He was a trustee of the village from 1989 to 1993, and then again from 1995 to 2010. In 2011, he was appointed mayor by outgoing mayor Brian Curran, who had just won a seat in the State Assembly. Later that year, Hendrick won the election for the seat, and has held it since.

Outside of his work with the village, Hendrick was the Deputy Town Attorney for the Town of Hempstead. He was also a 19-year member of the Lynbrook Fire Department. He was also a member of the Lynbrook Elks, the Knights of Columbus and the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
