Lynbrook Middle Schoolers L.I.N.K. with Buddies

Buddies are the L.I.N.K. to smooth school transitions in Lynbrook.

Submitted by Lynbrook School District

Lynbrook’s North Middle School sixth-graders received a friendly welcome to their new school in September, thanks to their helpful and supportive eighth-grade buddies.

Students were paired together through the L.I.N.K program, which aims to ease the younger students’ transition into middle school and establish friendships among the different grades.

The buddies were first introduced in late August at the sixth grade orientation and recently spent time together for a morning breakfast. The “L.I.N.K. Buddy Bagel Breakfast,” coordinated by Guidance Counselor Amanda Tambe, was a successful gathering that featured activities for the students to enjoy.

The eighth-grade students are encouraged to serve as mentors to their younger peers, assisting them in finding their way around the building and answering some questions they might have about middle school. The buddies will continue to meet over the course of the year, both on their own and through specially organized L.I.N.K. activities.
