Lynbrook Police Officers Honored at Village Meeting
The Town also announced a demolition permit for the vacant Tofu building on Sunrise Highway and a church on Earle Avenue.
The Village of Lynbrook announced the promotion of three police officers following the retirement of Inspector Alan Cochran at Monday's meeting.
Mayor William Hendrick announced that Lieutenant has been promoted to Inspector, Sgt. Charles McCartney has been promoted to lieutenant, and officer Brian Palladino has been promoted to sergeant.
"These are three very deserving men," Hendrick said to a packed crowd. "All the recommendations came from the chief's office...and all the senior officers, from what I understand, were very happy with the decisions."

Inspector Fleury thanked his family and fellow officers for their support, as well as outgoing Inspector Cochran.
"He taught me the job from the ground up, the way it should be taught," Fleury said of Cochran. "And a thank you, for each and every member of this department, who work tirelessly to keep this village safe day in and day out."

Cochran retires after serving the department for 33-plus years, first joining the department on March 2, 1978. He served as an officer for nine years, was promoted to sergeant in 1989, lieutenant in 2003, and inspector in 2005.
"He was always an asset to village," Hendrick said. "There was never a day where anybody had to apologize to Alan Cochran for being their police officer."
Cochran was very thankful for the recognition, and was even more emotional due to the passing of a close friend Monday, who he said had planned to attend the meeting.
"Thank you for always being there without even being asked, just showing up all the time," Cochran said to his fellow officers.
"I want to wish you all a healthy and happy thanksgiving, I want to wish you goodnight, goodbye, and may god bless all," Cochran said.
Demolition Permits Received
The town announced that they have issued demolition permits for the vacant tofu building on Sunrise Highway and a vacant house owned by a church on 219 Earl Avenue.
Hendrick said the tofu building will be demolished and built into a new radiology center, while the town is still working on the demolishment at the church, where a playground will most likely be built.
Town Grant May Go Towards New Park Bathroom
Hendrick said the town is thinking of using a $25,000 parks grant received by the state to build a new bathroom out in the "southern-western end" of Park.
Hendrick said the lack of a bathroom at that location was a problem for both parents and youths. The town then plans to build a small building around the bathroom, and hopes to get corporate sponsorship.
"Between a grant and sponsorship we'll really fix that part of the park," Hendrick said.
