Lynbrook Schools Outline Security Updates Coming to Buildings

The money comes from a state bond initiative, so it won't cost taxpayers anything extra.

The Lynbrook Board of Education outlined the security upgrades that will be coming to schools in the district at its meeting on Nov. 9.

The district received $892,992 from the Smart Schools Bond Act, which was approved by New York voters in 2014. Dr. Paul Lynch, assistant superintendent for finance, operations and information systems, presented an overview of how the money will be allocated in Lynbrook.

The district will install high-tech security features in buildings throughout the district. Key projects would include the addition of security vestibules in all buildings, creation of a districtwide internet protocol security infrastructure and additional cameras and locks, as well as a required consultation with nonpublic schools to determine ways to share resources from the allocation. The projected timeline would see security vestibule construction begin in the summer of 2017, with all projects completed by the spring of 2020.
