Lynbrook Students Collect 'Pennies for Patients'
Students also raised money for Make-A-Wish and St. Mary's Children's Hospital.
Students throughout the Lynbrook Public Schools helped others over the past few weeks..
Marion Street School raised $2,100 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through “Pennies for Patients” initiatives. Several male staff members volunteered to take on a “Don’t Shave December” challenge, and their colleagues and students eagerly made donations to cast votes on a winner. During a special assembly, teacher Anthony Simone was congratulated as the champion.
At Waverly Park Elementary School, children raised $524 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation through the sale of “cheer grams” for $1 each. Under the guidance of their advisors, members of the third-grade student council coordinated sales and volunteered their time during lunch periods.

West End School held a pajama day that raised $290 for Saint Mary’s Children Hospital through donations from families. Middle School students as well as Kindergarten Center children and faculty members collected toys for the John Thiessen Foundation. The Kindergarten Center will also conduct a Mitten Tree project for the Salvation Army this month.
