Lynbrook Students Up Their Math Game

Waverly Park students create new ways to learn math.

Fourth-graders in Lauren Citron’s class at Waverly Park Elementary School in the Lynbrook School District recently completed a creative assignment that incorporated math skills.

The students constructed three-dimensional flip posters, which they colored and decorated for display on a bulletin board. In order to develop the finished product, they were required to utilize their knowledge of multiplication.

The flip posters have four corners, with each one featuring a different multiplication strategy. The students were given one math problem that they were asked to solve four times by using standard algorithm, word problem, partial product and area model methods. They rotated among stations that represented these mathematical approaches.
